What is Grounding?

Grounding is a term used by many spiritual mentors. It means centering your energy in your body and being present in the moment. Grounding your energy actually helps with spiritual development, meditation, and getting in touch with higher guidance.

Being grounded brings stability and can actually help protect you from negative energy and entities.

When you are ungrounded you may experience anxiety or find that you are living too much in the past or the future. Or, maybe you are just kind of “out of it” and living in a fantasy world.

I do a conscious grounding routine regularly, since I find that is actually helps me stay in touch with my higher guidance, and maintain control of my own energy.

Here are several simple ways you can ground yourself.

  1. Go outside and stand or walk barefoot, touching the Earth (not concrete or pavement). Breathe deeply for a few minutes and say “I am grounding my energy and connecting with Mother Earth”

  1. Carry a small rock, stone, or crystal in your pocket with the intention that this help you stay grounded throughout your day. When you reach into your pocket and touch the stone, remember your intention to be grounded and present in the moment.

  1. Do a quick meditation, where you visualize roots growing from your feet, deep into the earth.  Watch as these roots take hold, and notice that they draw stabilizing energy from the earth and bring it up into your feet, legs, and into your physical body with your breath.

  1.  Create a grounding cord (in your mind) from your root, or base chakra (this is located at the very bottom of your spine) and send it into the earth.  Send it all the way to the heart of the earth, and ask that this cord connect you to the heart of the earth.

  1. Go outside and hug a tree! Trees are incredibly grounding. Merge your own energy to the energy of the tree. Be quiet and simply notice what is happening. Listen to the sounds around you, feel the air, look at the details on the bark of the tree. Be still and connect to nature.

You can do any of these exercises in just a few minutes. There are other ways to ground. Feel free to share some of your favorite ways to ground below.
