Anytime you find yourself in a rotten mood, or negative space, for whatever reason, you can make the choice to change that. Here are some of my personal favorite ways to handle my “bad moods”.

  1. Go outside for 5 minutes or more

Nature is the best healer we have access to. If you are in an office, home, or car and fighting your own or someone else’s poor energy, sometimes the best option is to simply GO OUTSIDE for a few minutes. If you can also take a walk this will do loads to move the energy, too. If not, still just being outdoors will often clear things up. Breathe the fresh air deeply, listen to the sounds, put your face to the wind or sun. If there is a tree nearby, go stand under it. Trees are great this way!

  1. Pet you dog or cat

Seriously, our animals want us to be happy. When I was in very dark space in my life last year, I kept ending up on my sofa, crying. Our family dog would come sit right next to me. Petting him always made me feel better, and got me grateful to have him. This spark of gratitude often gave me a better perspective into my problems.

  1. Tell a joke on yourself

Think of something you did that is slightly embarrassing, or a silly mistake you made, and tell it in a funny way to make someone else laugh. This is a great one, and I just used it today to lighten the mood for some of my co-workers. It also makes you laugh at yourself, which is huge in the self-healing game.

  1. Think of 5 things you are grateful for in your life

Really quickly, count them off your fingers out loud, or write them down.

Put the list in your pocket and read it again, each time you need to.

  1. Think of someone you know that is in a worse situation right now than you

Write a quick email or text to that person, letting them know you are thinking of them. Or, if you have time, send them a handwritten note through the mail.

  1. Get out of your mind and into your heart

Stop whatever it is you are doing, and do this for a minute:

Put your hand on your heart center, (slightly to the right of your physical heart, in the center of your chest), close your eyes, and breathe deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth. This sends a signal to your body to re-set, and helps your energy.

    7. Connect to your Higher Source

Direct your attention to the energy center at the top of your head, and see a flower opening up, on the top of your head. See a beam of sunlight entering your head through the opened flower. Watch the sunbeam enter your head and clear out all negative thoughts and feelings. See your mind and head filled with light.

  1. Sing and Dance

This is my personal favorite. I turn on Pharrel Williams’s song “Happy” and I dance and sing along with him. It rarely takes more than once, and my mood and the mood of anyone watching me lightens up considerably! I mean, how can this song not make you Happy?!?
